What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. EMDR is also a helpful treatment for anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences (Maxfield, 2019).

EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process.

EMDR therapy is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain. For
many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies.

EMDR is just one of the modalities offered through Suriel Therapy Co. If you are interested in learning more or exploring EMDR or other modalities, feel free to reach out for a free consultation!

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Anxiety and depression are natural emotions that every person experiences in one form or fashion, it's when these emotions bring disruption and disfunction to our lives when therapy may be needed. Therapy can be useful for understanding why these symptoms became so chaotic, the overall impact of how they are impacting you (outside of the obvious), and how to heal and cope with the symptoms. If you find your symptoms are interfering with your employment, academics, relationships, self-care, or emotional-regulation, therapy may be right for you.

Why Suriel Therapy Co?

Suriel Therapy Co. was developed with Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z in mind. The state of the world has left many of us working and striving from a young age and being told "it isn't enough" or learning that everything we worked for doesn't fulfill us the way we thought it would. Some of us grew up being told "if you just work hard enough, you'll get everything you want" but then reality hits and we learned that isn't true for us. We weren't equipped with all of the skills to manage the stress, the perfectionism, the inability to feel like enough because it wasn't as commonly experienced before us. As someone who knows first-hand how hard it can be to manage those feelings and still endure, I want to normalize these experiences and help other's develop the skills to help break the cycle. Our stories have been controlled by our families, our employers, the government, and while not everything is in our control, it is time to take back the pen and author our story the way we want to. Suriel Therapy Co. is for the burnt-out overachievers who are ready to find themselves.

What will therapy cost?

This is often the biggest determining factor in whether someone chooses to engage in therapy.

To keep therapy accessible, I do accept some insurances through different platforms like Headway, Alma, and Rula. These platforms allow me to accept certain insurances, schedule, and bill/create invoices for my clients. I currently accept Aetna, Cigna, BCBS of MA (telehealth), Carelon Behavioral Health, and Quest Behavioral Health. I can also provide Super Bills if you would like to use your Out of Network benefits and submit claims to your insurance that I may not accept for reimbursement.

I also offer private pay options, and those fees are listed under the Rates and Insurance section of this website. Private pay may be a better option for some people, even if they have insurance. Some insurance plans have a high deductible, and you may decide that paying privately is a better choice for you. Insurance also requires the sessions to be "medically necessary" and may place limitations on the session lengths, frequency, and total number of sessions. Insurances also may request information from the therapist on the sessions including the progress notes or treatment plans, which you may want kept separate.

I do require a card to be kept on file for auto payments. There is a fee for late cancellations and no-shows. This information is outlined in my practice policies and informed consent as well.
